PSI Receives Order from SPSE for Leak Detection System on the German Section of its Crude Oil Pipeline

Pipeline monitoring for crude oil pipeline from Fos-sur-Mer to Karlsruhe

Berlin, 28 August 2012 – PSI AG has been selected by Société du Pipeline Sud-Européen (SPSE) to deliver its SIL 1 certified pipeline monitoring system PSIpipelines to monitor the German section of the crude oil pipeline from Fos-sur-Mer in Southern France to Karlsruhe in Germany. The scope of supply includes, amongst other applications, quick detection and precise location of leaks.

During the first stage of the project PSI will implement a redundant pipeline monitoring system in the control centre at Fos-sur-Mer and in the control room at Oberhoffen-sur-Moder in Alsace. During the second stage the pipeline monitoring system will be extended to the French section of the pipeline system.

With PSIpipelines SPSE will obtain a pipeline monitoring system that guarantees the compliance to the strict requirements of the German regulations TRFL (Technical Guidelines on Pipelines). The pipeline crosses environmentally protected areas which demand reliable and safe pipeline monitoring. After rigorous testing the PSIpipelines monitoring system will be approved and certified by the independent experts from German TÜV Süd and TÜV Rheinland.

Société du Pipeline Sud-Européen (SPSE) supplies crude oil to several refineries and a petrochemical plant in France, Switzerland and Germany. Currently, about 23 million tons annually are transported from the French oil harbour Fos-sur-Mer to the processing plants. The pipeline system from Fos-sur-Mer to the German terminal at Karlsruhe is 769 km in length.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (electricity, gas, oil, heat), production management (metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, mining, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs more than 1,500 persons worldwide.
